Has anyone used the eComposter?

Hi gardening friends!

Costco has that eComposter on sale for $150 coming up here pretty soon. Anyone have personal experience with it that they could share?

Here's the link: eComposter

I've been thinking that this year in my gardening adventure... I really should begin composting.

EG, I know that you've got a big operation going on over there... got to pop on over to your site and see how your bins are working out for you.

I'm looking at this eComposter in terms of ease of use... and it does look kinda cool too!

  1. I would not spend lots of money for a composter. A compost pile is nothing more than a heap of layered materials that you turn occassionally to introduce air and moisture to keep the bacteria "cooking" to rot the material down to a usable state. All you really need is a place to put it and (not necessary but nice) something to hold it so it stays put and can be stacked up high and wide enough to create an optimal heat build up. A good compost pile is generally 3 feet by 3 feet or slightly bigger. Turning is easily done using a pitch fork unless you do an industrial operation like EG has set up! I use simple wire panels to hold my compost. Another good option is to connect together surplus wood shipping pallets which are often free for the taking if you keep an eye out for them. You can just stack the material without any container though and it works just fine.

  2. I agree with kitsapFG, that is alot of dough for a composter. You should call cities in your area, they often sell composters in the spring for like 20 bucks. The wire or pallets mentioned above work just as well too.

  3. It's hard to beat the ol' pallet bin system, and can usually find pallets for free. That thing looks really weird!

  4. I gotta fess up! I saw that also in the Costco's flyer and got pretty excited! I don't know, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and in as much as I try to stay on top of it, I tend to 'screw' it up!!! Yes, it's possible! So when I saw that you just roll it around ... well, that kinda tickled my fancy ... I think I need Compost 101!!!

Let me know what you decide!!!

  5. Hi Kiwi Gomes! Thanks for your comment!

I'm thinking the same thing... my downfall is NEVER turning the compost! So I thought this would be an easier for me... and I might actually get "compost!"

It's out of sheer laziness that I want it! : )

I'm not sure that I want to spend the money for it right now though... we'll see...
