The Last Garden tour for the 2009 growing season...

Welcome to Shaw Ann from Shawn Ann's Garden! Thanks for following my blog!

The 2009 gardening season is growing to a close... I have truly enjoyed my garden this year... my very first SFG!

I still have lots of tomatoes to process!
Pulled the last of my delicious carrots!

And the rest of my beets...
My fall peas are still producing. They taste so much better than my spring crop!
I also have a few cabbage heads to harvest...

Well, here's my last garden tour video for the 2009 growing season!

Garden Overview photo

Harvested some more beets today. Will enjoy them tomorrow with Sunday dinner!

Here's an overview photo of my SFG.
My beautiful baby broccoli seedlings that I transplanted... didn't survive... they got eaten... sigh....

I was thinking that if I collect gallon milk jugs and cut out the bottoms that I could use these to protect my transplanted seedlings... Anyone else do something like that?

Now for some garden blog reading... got to get caught up!

Harvest Monday report... carrots... beets... and BER

Oh my gosh, these carrots have been so good! And beet greens... I absolutely love them. As a matter of fact... I have discovered that I LOVE Greens! I also love Swiss Chard (it's my first time eating it! I decided to plant it after seeing how pretty it was on someone's garden blog)... I put it in my chicken noodle garden soup for lunch!

Look... two tomatoes turning red... DARN... BER has struck...

Question Pepper Growers... I bought a 4-pack of jalapeno peppers at the nursery... but 2 of my 4 plants are NOT Jalapeno... What is this beautiful pepper?

Harvest... red beets, greens, beans, radishes

I should have harvested my veggies BEFORE watering! Did you happen to see my Keen sandals from yesterday's post? Oh my! We have heavy clay soil here... and I was totally weighed down!

LOL!!! Anyway... I pulled quite a little harvest... even had enough beets and lettuce to share with my folks!

Included in my harvest: green beans... just a few..., radishes, baby romaine, leaf lettuce, my new most favorite green... swiss chard... (oh... lunch time is calling me!!!!) and beets.

I spied my very first baby Mandan Corn ear yesterday... yeah!!! And 2 little baby watermelons!

The day after the big rain...

A big welcome to bestinbloomtoday of Lynn's Garden! Thanks for following my blog!

Rain... the big storm
We had one heck of a thunder storm yesterday, complete with a down pour of rain. I know... those of you who live in my previous home area of New England are probably saying... "Ya.. so?"

But we live in a desert area where our average amount of moisture received is a mere 6 inches!

So yesterday's storm was quite something! And... we're to expect another thunder storm today!

For the most part, my garden enjoyed the rain....

Garden Photos
So, I walked around the garden as mud accumulated on my sandals and took some photos to share...
A cluster of Roma tomatoes
Leaf Lettuce still going strong!
Beet greens growing tall
Sweet Yellow Banana Peppers... I'm waiting for a big enough crop to pickle these.
My watermellon vines are finally growing!

Pea bed replanted

A big welcome to Warren Baldwin! Thanks for following my blog!!!

My dreams for pint jars filled with delicious peas.... dashed... I got my plants in the ground way too late. But that's OK... it's because I was setting up my SFG.

Pea Notes:
Plant peas early next year. Start in March and have a cover ready.
TO DO: Start a fall crop of Sugar Ann Peas (45 days) mid August.

In that 4x4 box today I planted:
-4 squares beets
-4 squares broccoli
-4 squares round carrots
-4 squares bush beans

Tomato Blossoms!

Welcome to Just Jenn, Dan, and Cynthia! Thanks for following my blog!

Garden photos taken by my son Aaron (age 11). Do you see the blossom on the tomato plant in the middle? Yeah!

Finally finished filling my last 4x8 box the other day thanks to the help from my 15 year old son, Matthew! I mixed... he filled...
Now... I want another 4x4 for the Japanese hull-less popping corn! I'd better get right after it because this corn takes 83 days to mature... that would be the END of August! Wow... Bought the 2x6 lumber today! Will need more Vermiculite... I think...

So.. in my new 4x8 box, Aaron (my 11 year old) and I planted:
-4 sweet yellow banana peppers plants (cause you have to buy them in a 4-pack...)
-4 jalapeno plants (Matthew, my 15 year old actually wanted Habanero Peppers, but they were all sold out)
-2 more squares of Radishes
-2 more squares of beets (can't wait for beet greens!)
-2 more squares of baby Romaine
-2 squares of Mesclun lettuce Mix (love this stuff!)

Aaron has surgery tomorrow... so I'll call this a GREAT DAY and sign off for now!
