Hoop House Experiment: Wonderful Radish Sprouts

Well it's been one week since the Great Cover-up!  And temperatures have been in the 30s at night for most of that week.

Last Tuesday I also began growing micro greens in the hoop house.  I'm so excited to see these sprouts!

10/18/10 Harvest from the Hoop House: Greens
I'm making a concerted effort to build health!  Missy and I are power walking every day... and I'm consuming more greens via green smoothies.   Gosh... we could call this the Great Toni Experiment!!!  Anyway... I know what you're thinking... green smoothies... ewwwwwww....

I know!  But honestly they taste pretty good the way that I make them!  This green smoothie has pomegranate, peaches, apples, grapes, orange, fresh lemon juice, some frozen berries... and some greens from my hoop house garden!
My secret weapon is my Vita Mix!  It's a high powered pulverizing wonder!  I use it every day... it's one of my prized possessions!   I popped on over to the Vita Mix site and found that they have a whole page dedicated to making green smoothies!

To make my green smoothie I add fresh and frozen fruit and some greens!

  1. I like your weapon Toni, it looks like a real autumn booster. I've sown some new salad seeds as well and why are about the same size as your little seedlings :-) / Tyra

  2. Hi Tyra! Thanks for stopping by! It's so exciting to watch them grow!

  3. Hi Toni - did you put the microgreens in your smoothie, or the "big" greens? Either way, the smoothie sounds tasty and healthy!

  4. Hello thyme2garden! I put the "big" greens in my smoothie. My microgreens haven't grown enough.

  5. Oh gosh, greens in a smoothie sounds just awful..hehe...I'm glad your little hoophouse is working great for ya!

  6. LOL EG! I thought of you as I was writing that!! ha ha...

  7. You know... enough pomegranate, peaches, apples, grapes, and berries will just about make anything else added taste good - no matter what it was! LOL!

  8. You got me. When you first mentioned green smoothies, my reaction was Ewwwww. But then again I made radish top soup yesterday and that is basically pureed greens. I love that.

  9. The trick to green smoothies Daphne is to incorporate lots of your favorite fruit!

Did you post your radish top soup recipe? Sounds yummy!

  10. Yay sprouts! (and I wish I could motivate to make a green smoothy for myself as often as you do!)

  11. Hi Jenn! The green smoothies are surprisingly good! How are you?

  12. Surprisingly sane. ;^) We've had loads of house guests and are about to embark on a crazy adventure of our own... I think I may actually be ready for winter for once. It'll be quiet and I might get to hunker down and get some quilting done and of course plan next years garden. =)

  13. I just bought my own VitaMix at Costco 2 weeks ago and I can't stop blending everything in my path!!! I LOVE it!
I think it's great that you're growing your own greens. Talk about organic and fresh.
People who haven't tried a green smoothie before and think they're going to dislike it will really be surprised. They're delicious and SO very healthy.

btw ... I haven't got a clue how I ended up here at your blog ... lol ... but I'm going to snoop around anyway. i'd love to learn how you created your garden. I may need to think about that myself for next year.

  14. Hi Me!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Vita Mix! I got mine at Costco too... after years and years of wanting one. Did you get the dry container? I grind my own whole wheat as I need it.. very cool!

I'm drinking a green smoothie now for lunch! Well it's raspberry colored because of the frozen berries that I added... but it includes kale and bok choy!

Me... my method of gardening is called Square Foot Gardening. It's awesome!!! I love NOT having to weed! I love the neatness of it.

Anyway, welcome to my garden blog!

  15. Hey Jenn, wow... you're a quilter too? I've got lots of scrap fabric that I dream of turning into quilts... I have a business making breastfeeding pillows... but haven't had time to quilt... yet...

I *LOVE* your comments! Thanks for stopping by!
